Is an "All-inclusive" wedding venue right for you?

I recently sat down with Megan Parker, a professional wedding planner of her business called Megan Mae Events, to talk about something I’ve always been curious about: all-inclusive wedding venues.
As someone who spends most weekends either behind the DJ booth or behind a camera, I definitely have experienced these venues. But I’ve always wondered what’s actually going on behind the scenes. How do they work? What do couples really get? And how do they fit into the giant (and sometimes chaotic) puzzle of planning a wedding?
So I figured… why not ask a pro?
Our conversation was full of great insights, a few “aha” moments, and honestly some things that made me see all-inclusive venues in a totally different way. What Does All-Inclusive Actually Mean?
All-inclusive wedding venues can honestly be a game-changer for a lot of couples. I mean, imagine this: you book one place and suddenly a huge chunk of your wedding checklist is already handled. Catering? Covered. Florals? Possibly covered. DJ? Hopefully a good one… preferably someone you like.
But here’s the thing we talked about with Megan: the phrase “all-inclusive” can mean a lot of different things depending on the venue.
Some venues truly handle almost everything in-house. They have their own catering team, their own planners, their own staff, and sometimes even their own décor and rentals. In those cases, couples can walk in with a vision and walk out with most of the logistics already taken care of.
Other venues use the term a little differently. Instead of doing everything themselves, they partner with a specific list of vendors. That means you’re not starting from scratch searching the internet for photograhers, florists, DJs, or caterers, but you are choosing from a pre-approved list the venue trusts.
In other words, “all-inclusive” might mean “we do everything for you”… or it might mean “we’ve already done the homework for you.” Either way, Megan had some great insights into how these setups actually work behind the scenes.
Let's Talk About the Pros First and Foremost
Convenience (aka the “Please just handle it for me” package)
One of the biggest perks of an all-inclusive venue is the convenience. A huge portion of the planning is already organized and managed for you. Instead of juggling ten different vendors, emails, contracts, and spreadsheets, the venue often coordinates most of it. This is especially perfect for what Megan called the “Type B couple”—the ones who would rather sip coffee, enjoy being engaged, and let someone else handle the details. Less stress, fewer decisions, and way fewer late-night random Google searches like “how many forks does a wedding need?”
Vendor Relationships (the dream team effect)
Most all-inclusive venues have a list of preferred vendors they work with regularly. And that can actually be a really good thing, in a lot of cases. These vendors know the space, know the staff, and know exactly how the day flows at that venue. It’s kind of like a band that’s played together for years... everyone knows their role and the timing just works. When the DJ, planner, caterer, and venue team are already used to working together, the whole day tends to run a lot smoother.
On-site catering can really help! According to The Knot 2025 Real Weddings Study, which surveyed almost 17,000 US couples last year, 58% of couples said that food and beverage were important priorities during their planning process. Thankfully, all-inclusive weddings venues always have in-house caterers to create a menu you'll love—this explains why 30% of couples booked an all-inclusive wedding venue.
Budgeting Made Easier (fewer surprise “uh-oh” moments)
Another big benefit is clearer pricing. With many all-inclusive packages, you know upfront what you’re paying for instead of slowly discovering new costs every week. Couples often appreciate being able to see a more complete picture of their wedding budget right from the start. Fewer surprise expenses, fewer awkward budget conversations, and a much smaller chance of someone whispering “Wait… how much did the napkins cost?”

Now, Let's Talk About the Cons
Of course, Megan and I also talked about the other side of the coin. As great as all-inclusive venues can be, they’re not always the perfect fit for every couple.
Limited Customization (aka “But I found this amazing vendor on Instagram…”)
One of the biggest downsides can be flexibility. If you’re the kind of couple who has a very specific vision—or you’ve already picked out your dream photographer, florist, or DJ—an all-inclusive venue might feel a little restrictive. Many venues require you to choose from their preferred vendor list. That list may be great… but it might not include the person you actually truly want to book.
Quality Questions (the mystery box effect)
Another thing to consider is vendor quality. Sometimes when you book an all-inclusive venue, you’re essentially booking vendors you haven’t met yet. You may not get to meet the florist, DJ, or coordinator until later in the process. For couples who really value researching, interviewing, and personally choosing their team, that can feel a little like opening a mystery box and hoping for the best.
Structure and Set Schedules (the wedding-day timeline boss)
All-inclusive venues also tend to run on a very structured system. They have a process that works, and they stick to it. While that’s great for efficiency, it can sometimes mean less flexibility in how your day flows. Maybe cocktail hour has to be exactly one hour. Maybe the reception has a hard end time. If you’re someone who wants total freedom to build a completely custom timeline, that structure can feel a little rigid.

Making the Right Choice
At the end of the day, choosing an all-inclusive venue really comes down to your personality, priorities, and how you want the planning process to feel.
Megan’s advice was simple: don’t automatically rule them out. Instead, take the time to explore your options and see what actually fits your vision for the day. For some couples, the simplicity and built-in team make planning feel smooth and stress-free. For others, having total control over every vendor and detail is part of the fun.
There’s no right or wrong answer... it’s really about finding the approach that makes you excited about your wedding… and not stressed out at 11:30 p.m. comparing linen colors on five different vendor websites.
